Our 2023 OHV Trails Project for Maintenance of FS Rd. 779 has been APPROVED for funding!

Happy spring! I hope this finds you well.

Great news! Our collaborative efforts are paying off! The Town of Avon, partnering with Wildridge Trail Coalition and our project sponsor, the US Forest Service, received APPROVAL of our grant submission for a Colorado Parks and Wildlife OHV Competitive Trail Project Grant. This project will fund the reconditioning of Forest Service Road 779, Metcalf Creek Road, by building water bars to manage erosion, diverting water off the route, laying new road base and removing large rocks to ensure the route is navigable for OHVs and 4WD vehicles while maintaining the technical aspects of the route. This heavy maintenance will restore the sustainability of the route and will prevent the potential for decommissioning by the Forest Service.

This is a HUGE victory for our Community! This route, FS Rd. 779 combined with FS Rd. 734 and FS Rd. 717, Berry to June Creek, provides for a scenic loop in your high clearance 4WD vehicle, OHV, dirt bike, e-bike, mountain bike or even on foot. The loop can be accessed by the north Edwards, Singletree and Wildridge communities from their back door and the rest of the community from the Berry Creek parking area.

This is also a first! It is the first time a CPW OHV Grant has been awarded to a municipality and it is also the first time a CPW OHV Grant has been awarded to maintain a road under US Forest Service management. We ask that you please show your support and appreciation by purchasing OHV stickers from CPW for all of your vehicles. It’s a small cost and the money goes right back to trails.

This project would not be possible without the support of the Town of Avon. I would like to encourage you to please take a moment to send a quick email to council@avon.org to let them know how grateful you are for the Town’s support.

Finally, we are still raising funds for this project and others. If you haven’t already done so, please consider making a donation. It’s convenient and tax deductible and supports our local Community.

Thank you again for your support!
