WE DID IT!

Yahoo, we did it! Last night, the Avon Town Council voted 5 to 1 to APPROVE the Ordinance allowing Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) on Town streets in Wildridge. Thank you for your support! We couldn’t have done it without you!

This Ordinance is pretty specific. Here are some things you need to know:

  • The definition of OHV is spelled out in the Ordinance. Snowmobiles and Golf Carts are NOT included.

  • OHVs are ONLY permitted to travel within the Wildridge subdivision from the owner’s residence or garage directly to the June Creek (FS Rd 717) and Metcalf Creek (FS Rd 779) trailheads. Wildwood and Metcalf Roads are not included. A map of designated routes can be found on the Town’s website.

  • Every OHV must be currently registered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Please do this! A fair amount of this money comes back to our community in the form of grants for trails and maintenance. It’s money well spent.

  • Every OHV must be covered by insurance that complies with the State’s requirements for motor vehicles.

  • The OHV speed limit on Town streets is 15 MPH. We MUST comply with this! Our neighbors, the opposition, WILL BE WATCHING!

  • We have to drive safely and courteously, within the travel lanes, not on the pedestrian walkway. We also need to obey all stop signs and use hand signals when turning. No wheelies, please.

  • OHVs MUST have brakes, a muffler and a SPARK ARRESTER! No one wants to start a forest fire, so please make sure your vehicle has the appropriate equipment.

  • Kids under the age of 16 that do not yet have a driver’s license must be accompanied by an adult. The adult can be on a separate OHV but must be close by. Kids under the age of 18 must also wear a helmet.

The Ordinance DOES NOT contain a sunset clause however, this fall, Council will be performing a review and will repeal or modify the Ordinance if they feel it is not working or if the unintended consequences are too great. For this reason, we need your help to educate all of your friends, neighbors and family on the stipulations of the Ordinance and how to be safe and courteous drivers.

Wildridge Trail Coalition will also be hosting, in coordination with with Rocky Mountain Sports Riders and Colorado Backcountry Trail Riders Association, a season kick off and training session for the Forest Service Motorized Trail Ambassador Program on June 10, 2021 at 5:30p.m. Please email devon@wildridgetrailcoalition.org if you are interested in attending or if you would like to learn more. This video call will also be recorded and posted to our website so training can be completed at your convenience at a later date. The more Motorized Trail Ambassadors we have out and about, the better.

Finally, there is a tentative Work Session on Forest Service Rd. 779 scheduled for June 8.  Please mark your calendar.  I will forward more information on this when it becomes available.

Please let me know if you have questions, concerns or if I can help in any way.

Thank you all for your support!
