OHV use of Town Streets in Avon

Happy Independence Day to all! Along with the holiday comes a much deserved opportunity to take a break and enjoy the outdoors. Please keep the following in mind while recreating in Avon.

  • OHVs are ONLY permitted to travel WITHIN THE WILDRIDGE SUBDIVISION from the owner’s residence or garage directly to the June Creek (FS Rd 717) and Metcalf Creek (FS Rd 779) trailheads. Wildwood, Metcalf and Nottingham Roads are not included. A map of designated routes can be found on the Town’s website.

  • The OHV speed limit on Town streets is 15 MPH, NO EXCEPTIONS!

  • OHVs MUST have brakes, a muffler and a SPARK ARRESTER! No one wants to start a forest fire, so please make sure your vehicle has the appropriate equipment.

  • We have to drive safely and courteously, within the travel lanes, not on the pedestrian walkway. We also need to obey all stop signs and use hand signals when turning.

  • If you are out after sunset or before sunrise, you must have a head light and tail light.

  • Every OHV must be currently registered with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Please do this! A fair amount of this money comes back to our community in the form of grants for trails and maintenance. It’s money well spent.

  • Every OHV must be covered by insurance that complies with the State’s requirements for motor vehicles.

  • Driver’s must wear proper eye protection.

  • Kids under the age of 18 must wear a helmet.

  • Kids under the age of 16 that do not yet have a driver’s license must be accompanied by an adult. The adult can be on a separate OHV but must be close by.

The Ordinance DOES NOT contain a sunset clause however, this fall, Council will be performing a review and will repeal or modify the Ordinance if they feel it is not working or if the unintended consequences are too great. For this reason, we need your help to educate all of your friends, neighbors and family on the stipulations of the Ordinance and how to be safe and courteous drivers.

Finally, there is no parking allowed on the streets of Wildridge. If you are using the Forest Service Rd 779 trailhead, please park in the small lot on the Forest Service side of the fence.

Please feel free to reach out should you have questions or concerns. I can be reached at devon@wildridgetrailcialition.org or on my cell at (970) 331-6079.

Thank you for your support!
