CPW OHV Grant and Seasonal Wildlife Closures

Happy spring! I hope this finds you well!

I am super excited to announce that the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Off-Highway Vehicle Grant has been awarded, the permit has been finalized and the contractor engaged to perform the heavy maintenance work to FS Road 779, also known as Metcalf Road. The work, scheduled to be completed this spring once snow melt allows, will maintain the technical nature of the route and provide much needed erosion control. Thank you to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Town of Avon, US Forest Service - Eagle-Holy Cross Ranger District and our Community Support for funding this one of a kind project.

As a reminder, seasonal wildlife closures are in place for motorized vehicles until June 21, 2023 on FS Road 779, Metcalf Road, and FS Road 717, June Creek Road. FS Road 774, Berry Creek Road, and FS Road 717.1A that follows the power line between Berry Creek and June Creek are open but only to the connection with 717.1B coming out of Wildridge. Please respect these closures and give our calving, fur-bearing friends their space.

Finally, Wildridge Trail Coalition is looking for volunteers to participate in the Forest Service Motorized Trail Ambassador program. This program operates on the Basalt to Gypsum Trail system and will, with Forest Service approval, also operate on Red and White Mountain. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to me at devon@wildridgetrailcoalition.org.

Thank you for your support!
