Forest Service Roads and Trails Open for the Season
Happy summer! I hope this finds you well!
Last week, many roads and trails on Forest Service land opened for the season. The remainder will open July 1.
Red and White and Muddy Pass system roads were all opened last Friday, a few days late due to excessive snow at higher elevations. Red and White is still holding snow and was inaccessible from the west. Muddy Pass has been completely logged out and the Forest Service crew has been working this week to log out Red and White, Metcalf, and June Creek.
As we move into the busy 4th of July weekend, please use caution on all of these roads. Many different user groups will be enjoying our beautiful landscape. Be courteous and yield to others. Hikers, mountain bikers and equestrian users have the right of way. Please stop, turn off your motor and let these folks pass.
If you haven’t already done so, please register your 4 x 4, quad, side by side or dirt bike with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. These registration fees fund trail maintenance, construction of new trails, parking areas, signs and maps AND are funding our FS Rd 779 Road Maintenance Project. Please comply with the law while also supporting our local system.
Regarding our FS Rd 779 Road Maintenance Project, RPM Construction is scheduled to complete the work mid July. Stay tuned for more information and the exact timing.
As a reminder, while Wildridge Trail Coalition is advocating for and collaborating with local land managers to open legal motorized single track on Red and White Mountain, all existing trails are currently illegal. Please help further our cause and be respectful of the system by staying on designated, open and legal routes.
Finally, Wildridge Trail Coalition is looking for volunteers to participate in the Forest Service Motorized Trail Ambassador program. This program operates on the Basalt to Gypsum Trail system and will, with Forest Service approval, also operate on Red and White Mountain. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to me at devon@wildridgetrailcoalition.org.
Thank you for your support!
